Blog #1: My workplace
My workplace is called Air Sea Cargo Network, and it's a freight forwarder and a freight forwarder is an entity or person that's licenses to coordinate shipments. My workplace is located in Oakland by the Coliseum , and it's a small office where 2 companies are working together. Since there is 2 companies there are 7 people that work including my mentor. My workplace employs people that have experience in the field and give good costumer service. Most of the people that work there are 4 year college graduates and specialize in different things. The strengths of my workplace are that it's a small company so we give customer service and we don't have machines answering the phones. The weakness that my workplace has is the space, the company went through some space and employee reductions.

Blog #2: My mentor
My mentors name is Elizabeth Searle and she's the president and owner of the company. Her work day is very tiring and busy, she's always on the computer, answering phones or proofreading documents. She became interested in this field because she worked 20 years for a lady and she started being passionate about the freight forwarding business and so she started her own company when the lady sold her company. The skills she requires to be in this field is patience, responsibility, and experience, adding on to that she is also a notary public of the state of California.

Blog #3: My role
My main responsibility is to answer the phone and proofread documents. The tasks get harder each week, at the beginning I didn't answer the phone or touch any documents but now I do since I'm supposed to create documents in order to help my mentor with a shipment. A day at my workplace is really busy and it could be boring sometimes we do different tasks every time I come, sometimes we work on my skills at answering the phones or she explains to me part of the process of being a freight forwarder. The first day at my WLE went really good, she explained my responsibilities, rules and regulations, and introduced me to the personnel. It was interesting and fun because we had lunch at El Torito because it was someone's birthday and that was the perfect chance to show my manners and that I was a good intern, I also said thanks for the opportunity they were giving me and that I was going to take advantage of it and learn.

Blog #4 Project Brainstorm
I'm planning to do a shipment to EL Salvador and export 50 sewing machines to a maquila that's replacing their sewing machines,I need to create different documents for this shipment such as a cover letter, a proposal of the item, and many other documents that are required for a shipment. Me and my mentor came up with this idea so I have an understanding of what a shipment requires and the process we are supposed to follow. I'll also learn how to be more responsible and work under stress. I'm excited to do this project because I'm going to be able to have a fictional company, export product, and have a little of experience on what completing a shipment looks like.

Blog # 5 Progress on my WLE Project
Today at my WLE we brainstormed more about the project, we came up with names for the fictional companies that are going to be used in the project, we also did research about what item I want to export. So far, I just have ideas of what my project is going to be , who is going to be participating and how is going to happen. But in the next two weeks I will start the project and hopefully complete it too.

Blog # 6 Leadership Skills
The leadership skills that I used the most at my workplace is think critically, and collaborate productively. I used thinking critically when I'm proofreading the documents or something that involves me being really focus. I collaborate productively when I help my mentor to make copies, organize the office, look for files, answer the phone. I think that I could improve in thinking critically by doing more stuff that involves this skill such as trying my best to create a document for a shipment. The skills my mentor uses the most is Thinking Critically because she's always dealing with documents that require her attention and responsibility such as when she starts a shipment , she needs to be focus on the prices and the documents the client needs in order to complete it.

Blog #7 What I learned,Reflection
What I learn during this weeks of WLE is that I could do whatever I want because I'm capable of doing it, and what I like about about my WLE is that I learn a lot of new and interesting things. A challenge that I've faced during this weeks has been answering the phone, sometimes I get stuck and forget what to say and what I've done to improve this is to have my script in front of me and ready so I don't forget what to say. My creativity was put to use when I had to come up with the project . What I believed about this profession has drastically changed, at the begginning I thought it was easy that you just had to answer phones, or create documents. But now that I'm doing it I've learned that it takes different skills and concentration in order to do it right. Today I was creating a document and I thought that I did it right but when I checked I hadn't and a mistake could have really bad consequences in this business. Everything I've learned from my WLE can help me in the future by not thinking things are easy before I do them, and to be a responsible person and to take feedback from others as way to help me and not hurt me.

Blog #8 Professionalism
In order to get hired for my WLE, I had to follow a process, first I had to research places that were possible for me to get an internship at, then I had to 2 drafts of a cover letter explaining what the internship program was and why I would like to work for that institution, then I had to create my resume with my work experience and all the jobs I've held. Once I was done with that I needed to do more research over the phone and call places that were possible to get an internship at. The most effective way to find a job and get hired is to sound and look professional or at least have experience in the field in order to get the job. As a result of my WLE , I think being a professional or a responsible  adult in the work world means, to take challenges, learn to take feedback from others, don't give up if you don't know how to do something, and being persistent with your work.

Blog # 9 Life at my WLE
Today at my internship I was working on my presentation, editing my blogs, working on the final draft of the Project Plan and completing project. My mentor wasn't here for 3 hours so I had time to catch up on things I hadn't done related to my WLE. I've improved as an intern because I take things more seriously, it has taught me how to be  a more responsible person, and to work under circumstances that are not always going to be comfortable for me, such as working with people that have a lot more experience than I do or just working in an environment that involves acting really polite and educated. My workplace is a really interesting place to work at sometimes it can be a little boring but if I have tasks to complete or things to learn it's worth it. In overall my workplace is fun and it's full of people that are nice and funny, sometimes they crack jokes or talk about funny things and I'm really comfortable working here and I think that's what makes it a great internship. Besides all the fun, my mentor really helps me and supports me when she knows I need it, she sees that I'm capable of performing the tasks she assigns.

Blog #10 The End
The final thoughts about my WLE are that it was a great opportunity for me to gain knowledge on how the business world works, I also learned a lot of useful things like how to act in a professional environment, how to work under pressure, how to take feedback from others, and how to take and overcome a challenge.  This experience is going to help me next year to look for an internship I'm really interested in or in a field that I like in order to be more successful with my project, presentation and to get more out of it. It also gave me experience to work with a professional adult who is a really hard working person, and that wants a lot out of people that she knows have the capacity to perform the tasks right and when they're assigned
